When God Moves Through Story: A Visit to Mercantile on Broadway
When God Moves Through Story: A Visit to Mercantile on Broadway
Earlier today, I stopped by Mercantile on Broadway — a sweet shop that recently began carrying my books — just to check in, see how things were going, and bring a few more journals for the table. I had no plan for anything more than a quick visit. But as I’ve learned time and time again… God often has something more in mind.
Within minutes, I was signing copies of Tiny Seeds, Big Faith and Where Does God Live? for two customers who were browsing. My sweet boy stood beside me, holding a wooden folding fence he wanted. His quiet presence and big eyes reminded me exactly who these stories are for — the little ones, and the hearts that guide them.
But then something happened that I’ll never forget.
The store employee had to tell me that she had actually seen a few customers weeping while reading The Gift of You.
I had to pause and catch my breath.
As a writer, you pour your heart into the words, praying they’ll somehow reach someone. But to hear that a story — this story, my story, God’s story — moved readers to tears right in the middle of a shop… that’s not about me. That’s about God.
This book was never mine to begin with. I just held the pen (or the keyboard 😊).
He’s the one writing the real story — the one that goes beyond paper and ink and even my wildest dreams.
I left the store feeling incredibly humbled, deeply encouraged, and more aware than ever of how God can use our small offerings for His great purpose.
To every reader who’s picked up one of these books — thank you.
To every tear that’s been shed over The Gift of You — may it be a reminder that God does indeed have a plan for you: Jeremiah 29:11.
And to the One who planted the seed of these stories — all glory to You.
With love and gratitude,
Michelle
Thank you!
